Monthly Archives: December 2012

FOTM: December

Today is not only the last day of the month, it’s also the last day of the year 2012. I liked this year a lot because I’ve met great new people, visited beautiful new places and also found wonderful new and old penpals. πŸ™‚ I’m sad to see this year coming to an end…but I’m also excited to see what the new year has in store for me! πŸ˜€

So here isΒ  my last “Favorite Of The Month” post for this year.

1. Deco tape

In December I’ve used my Christmas and Hello Kitty Deco tape a lot…almost on all my Christmas cards and letters. πŸ™‚ I found all three of them at Michael’s.

2. Storage box

This is my three layer storage box I use to store things I use for my letter writing and envelope making. It always sits next to me when I’m writing letters and doing crafts. It’s my crafty toolbox πŸ˜‰

3. Christmas stickers

And since December is the holiday/Christmas month, I used my favorite Christmas stickers a lot this month. β™₯ Luckily the package was pretty big and I still have a lot left over for next year. πŸ™‚

That’s it from me for this year! Thanks so much for reading my blog and I hope you all will continue reading my blog in 2013! I already have lotsΒ  of blog post ideas and I’m also planning a little giveaway for the first January week…don’t miss it! πŸ™‚

Happy New Year 2013!

Last outgoing mail of 2012

This weekend I was busy writing and preparing the last mail of this year which I’ll take to the post office tomorrow. This includes: 2 birthday presents, 3 letters, 1 swap and 3 postcards:

Colorful letter to one of my Dutch friends:

Penpal birthday card…

…with pretty stamps πŸ™‚

A birthday present for another pal:

My very first swap-bot swap… it’s called “Happy Mail Day” swap and we’re supposed to send a letter and three little surprises to our swap partner:

3 postcards for a swap-bot postcard swap..they go to the US, Canada and the Netherlands:

And last but not least a present to another penpal which I already sent yesterday:

Now I only have three letters left to write…but I will do that in the new year. πŸ™‚

DIY: Christmas Card Journal

Are you like me and don’t want to throw away all the nice and beautiful Christmas cards you have received this year?

When I got out my Christmas decorations this year I even found a stack of cards from last year πŸ˜‰ I never knew what to do with the cards after Christmas was over….until today! In a very creative moment I had the idea to make Christmas Card Journals out of my cards!

And here they are:

I punched holes in the cards and tied them together with a Christmas ribbon…and for the cover I used one of my left over Christmas cards. Inside of the cover card I’m going to put a photo of my husband and me on Christmas Eve and I’ll also write about our holiday. What we did, what we had for dinner and who we spent the holiday it with. That way I can look at my Christmas Card Journals in many years from now and remember the ‘good old times’. πŸ˜‰

What you’ll need:

  • Christmas cards

  • Ribbon

  • Hole puncher

This year I received a total of 31 Christmas cards…so this year’s journal will be a lot thicker than last year’s.

Here are all my cards on a pile ^_^

First of all, I sort them by height and width:

You can sort them however you want to. I try to put cards with similar heights or widths together.

Next, I punch holes in them (2) with a big (three) hole puncher. I start with the bottom card and after I punch the holes in it, I put the ribbon through the holes…I do this card by card:

And when I’m done, I tie a nice bow on the top and write the title on the cover card:

Of course you can decorate the cover card however you want. All I had at the moment was a black marker πŸ˜›

You can also make Birthday Card Journals if you receive more birthday cards than Christmas cards. πŸ™‚ I hope you liked my little tutorial and have fun making your own journals! πŸ™‚

Snow day

Thanks to the winter wonder land outside (aka snowstorm), I don’t have to work today. Woohoo! πŸ™‚ I can spend aaaall day in my cozy warm house, writing letters and making a few things for a giveaway that I’m planing to do here on my blog in the new year.

So far we haven’t gotten the 12 to 18 inches of snow the forecast predicted but due to the wind/storm, at times the visibility is pretty bad out there. I’m just glad I don’t have to go outside (besides going to the mailbox) ^_^ I love sitting by the window watching the snowflakes though. πŸ™‚

No matter how bad the weather…our mail man is always out there, delivering our mail! πŸ˜€

Last night I wrote a few more Postcrossing postcards..which are on their ways to Russia, Taiwan and Virginia now:

Even though I didn’t receive any letters today, I’ll be plenty busy answering the ones I received the past few daysΒ  πŸ˜‰ And I’ll start writing right now!

Happy Thursday everyone! πŸ™‚

My husband is the best! ♥

Christmas is over and I think the holidays went by way too fast! I hope you all had wonderful holidays!

My 5 days off from work were over in a blink of an eye…but they were GREAT! πŸ™‚

Friday I stayed home, finished our wall closet project (everything is organized now!) and prepared some things for our Christmas weekend. On Saturday our friends came over to our place in the evening and cooked for us. Well…the men cooked and my girl friend and I watched “The Devil wears Prada”. It was lots of fun. And of course we went to bed way too late.

On Sunday we went to a classical Christmas concert with the same friends and had dinner afterwards…and on Monday the same friends came to our house again for a big Christmas Eve dinner and we had a great time with lots (too much!) of good food, Monopoly and tons of presents.

Most of the presents under the tree were from my dear husband – for me! πŸ˜€ I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw how much he got me! β™₯

I wanted to share a few of the presents on here because you’ll probably be seeing a lot of them in the future πŸ˜› (Note: I do NOT want to brag with what I got for Christmas! I just love sharing cool things with you.) He bought me a TON of scrapbook paper! Aaaaaaah! He paid good attention when he went shopping with me in the past few months because he got all the things I kept looking at but never bought. LOL

I got these two beautiful scrapbook paper pads:

This one has 48 Paris themed sheets:

The papers are just too cute and almost too nice to use! I’m not sure whether I’m going to make envelopes with them or something else. (Any ideas/suggestions what I could use them for??) Same goes for this gorgeous fairytale pad (also 48 sheets):

Look at all the glitter!!!

And the biggest surprise was the following present…because I actually wanted my hubby to go to AC Moore last Thursday to get it for me because it was a special sale and I had to work. When he was at the store he texted me that the lady in front of him bought 5 and there were no more. πŸ™ I was pretty disappointed because it was just such a great deal! Well and on Christmas Eve I opened a big present and found this:

A tote bag with 300 (!!) sheets of scrapbook paper! I know I already have more paper than I can possibly use LOL but this was only $20 instead of $60! I had to have it! πŸ˜› You should have seen my face when I saw it..haha my husband tricked me into thinking they were sold out! He never actually said they were sold out…but he didn’t tell me that he got the last one! πŸ˜‰

Look at all the nice patterns!

And this is the inside:

I already used some of this paper to make a birthday card. And I told my husband that I won’t have to buy any paper for years! πŸ˜› All these beautiful papers will be made into cards and envelopes.

Did you get any crafty Christmas presents?

I also received some amazing presents from my penpals and I am very blessed to have such good friends. Thank you if you’re reading this!! β™₯

So today was my first day back at work…and like I thought, the office was VERY quiet today, which was nice. Tomorrow I’ll be working from home because we’re supposed to get up to 18 inches (45 cm) of snow. I really hope that we DO get that much snow..since we hardly had any snow so far this year.Β  Did anyone of you have a white Christmas? And what are your plans for the rest of the year? I’ll be writing letters and making birthday cards for 2013. πŸ˜‰
