Another happy week for the mail addict

This week I was busy mailing out lots of swaps and postcards…but I also received some very nice mail from great people all over the world! 😀 I hope you all had a great mail week too!

Incoming mail

Finally I got my “Happy Mail Day” swap-bot swap…I had to pick it up at the post office and pay some money because there wasn’t enough postage on it. 😕 I’m just glad it finally arrived! It contained two postcards, a little magnet, a clear stamp, self-made washi tape and a letter on beautiful handmade stationery. 🙂

Pretty card from Hamburg through a “Aerial View” tag on Postcrossing:

Amazingly beautiful Oregon postcards from an amazingly nice swap-bot swapper in Oregon 😀 😀 😀 Thank you so much!

More Swap-bot, Postcrossing and Facebook swap postcards:

And two letters from two wonderful penpals in Germany and New York:

What a great incoming mail week! Can you tell that I’m a postcard addict? LOL But guess what! I have 998 postcards in my collection now…which means two more and I have 1,000! I hope I’ll receive them this week. I’m so excited! I also have to buy a new box because the one I’m keeping all my cards in is full… 😛

But I don’t only love receiving postcards..I also LOVE sending them! So lets move on to this week’s…

Outgoing mail

Swap-bot postcard swaps:

I liked this swap a lot. We were supposed to send 4 postcards from 4 different US states to our swap partner. I can’t wait to see which states I’ll receive! 😀

State postcard swaps:

Postcrossing swap for a nice lady in Ohio who collects map cards:

And I finally used some of my very old Diddl stationery for a letter to one of my American pals 🙂

More postcrossing swaps:

And I’m happy I can finally use the pretty new stamps 😀

Speaking of new stamps…starting today international mail costs $1.10 and postcards within the US cost 33 cents. Eventhough there’s an international forever stamp now (it’s round), I still like to use several smaller stamps…because I think letters are a lot prettier when they have multiple different stamps on them. 🙂 I really love the 86 cents stamps with the Puffins:

And the new postcard stamps are also beautiful! They have different apples on them:

And these 1 cent stamps are not new but I’ve never used them before…they have a Tiffany lamp on them..aren’t they pretty?

I’ve also ordered some brand new forever stamps but I haven’t received them yet because their issue date is today…so I guess I’ll receive them some time this week. I can’t wait! I’m not really happy about the postage going up all the time..but at least they make beautiful stamps! I’d be very upset if they were all ugly ones. 😛

And the winner is…

… Steffi from Germany! 😀

The Valentine’s Day cards are on their way to Germany right now…and I hope they’ll arrive in time! 🙂

Thanks everyone else for participating, I was happy to see how many of you wanted to win my cards! This was my first giveaway but definitely not my last one, so stay tuned! 🙂

Last week my husband and I have both been very sick with the flu and now we’re finally feeling better and I’m able to go back to work. And because I wasn’t feeling well last week I didn’t do much in the letter writing department..which means that I have a lot of catching up to do now… However, I still have some outgoing mail to share with you today because I mailed out several swaps and postcards…and two letters that I managed to write when my fever was gone. 🙂

Letter and birthday card

I really like the statehood stamps 🙂

Two swap-bot swaps and a letter

Another swap-bot swap…and I just realized that I put too many stamps on it…aaaaah! 🙁

More swap-bot swaps and postcrossing swaps

And more swaps…I love swapping postcards…can’t ya tell? 😉

I hope you all have a fantastic week! It’s freeeeeezing cold here in Maine. Today it was -20°C with a wind chill of -30°C…brrrr! Can’t wait for spring!

Valentine’s Day Giveaway

One month until Valentine’s Day! 🙂

I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of commercial holidays but I love making cards..so I’ve decided to do a Valentine’s Day Card Giveaway this year!

And here is what one of my readers can win:

The winner will receive three handmade, blank Valentine’s Day cards and three matching white envelopes which she/he can use this Valentine’s Day. 🙂

How you can participate:

Everyone can participate.

Leave a comment on this blog post, telling me about your favorite holiday of the year and why it is your favorite holiday.

You have one week, until January 21st, to leave a comment.

Then I’m going to use random.org to pick one winner whom I will contact for her/his postal address and then I will send her/him the three cards.

Please be aware that I will send out the prize as soon as I receive the winner’s postal address..however because the postal service is pretty slow in some countries it might take a few weeks for the winner to receive the prize! Lets hope it won’t take too long. 🙂

I hope a lot of you will participate! Good luck!

Bread and color please!

The first two weeks of the new year have been pretty busy and I didn’t feel like writing or blogging at all. So of course now I have a lot of catching up to do…blog posts and letters. 😉 I have to write 6 letters…

Last weekend my husband and I drove to New Hampshire and Vermont for the weekend to do a bread baking class at King Arthur in Vermont, which was one of his Christmas presents for me. We both absolutely LOVE bread (we’re Germans..we have to love bread!) and I love baking bread a lot…so to learn more about the art of bread baking we spent four hours at this great baking school and learned a ton of new techniques and baker secrets. Of course we also did a little sight seeing and I bought a bunch of NH and VT postcards for my pepals and my own collection. It was my very first time in Vermont and I loved it!

Here’s a picture of King Arthur in beautiful Vermont:

Unlike in Vermont, the weather in Maine has been kind of depressing lately…lots of snow, mud, fog and no sunshine at all. I used to LOVE winter and snow…but over the years that I have spent in Maine I like it less and less because winters are just too long here. So I’m definitely looking forward to spring now! 😀

And since today is such a dark, grey day I figured I’d post pictures of the colorful mail I have received in the past two weeks. 🙂

Lovely letters and a card from my friends in Germany, Texas, Montana, Australia and South Korea. ♥

And some pretty postcards from Germany, Netherlands, Washington and Hong Kong that I have received from friends, through Postcrossing and a Swap-Bot swap. 🙂

I also received this postcard through Postcrossing…

…even though it’s a Montreal (Canada) postcard, it was sent from a Postcrosser who lives here in MAINE! 😉 She lives only 50km (31 miles) away from me (and I’ve been to her town before!)..that’s less than an hour drive! How small is the world?! She figured that I already own all postcards of Maine (she could be right LOL) and so she decided to send me one from Montreal. I think it’s funny that out of the thousands of Postcrossing members she got my address!

This week I’ve mailed out only one letter..to a penpal in Germany:

I’m planning on writing at least one more today and preparing my giveaway, which will start tomorrow. I hope you all have a good weekend! 🙂

Valentine’s Day cards and envelopes

When I’m in the card- or envelope making mood, I’m thinking of all the upcoming holidays or other special occasions I could make my cards and envelopes for, because I like being prepared. 🙂

So this time I made a few cards and envelopes for Valentine’s Day…even though it’s still over a month away. February is my absolute favorite month of the year and I can’t wait for it to begin! ♥

So far I’ve made three envelopes and four cards:

I love the “February” envelope the most:

These three cards are a small, note card size..so they will fit in the envelopes I send letters to my penpals with:

And this one has a bigger size..and I used one of my Strawberry Shortcake calendar sheets. Being an 80s girl, I absolute LOVE Strawberry Shortcake! The original one though..not the ugly new one…

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? And do you send out cards? V-day is a big deal here in the US but for me it’s just a normal day. But I like all the pink and red flowers, balloons and other things the stores sell. 🙂
